I wanted to take a moment to share my personal story—not only as a way to step out of my comfort zone but also to reflect on the journey that brought me here. It’s a reminder of the challenges, growth, and lessons along the way. A big part of me hopes no one reads this, but here goes...

Hi there👋, I’m Kevin Joseph Balighot, the Founder and CEO of The Level Up, a Sydney-based AI marketing agency dedicated to helping small, local businesses gain access to the latest, cutting-edge technology in marketing and software. One of my passions is bridging the gap between innovative tech solutions and the small business owners who need it most, empowering them with tools and strategies that once seemed reserved for larger corporations.

My Journey into Marketing

My journey into marketing wasn’t exactly straightforward. Before finding my passion, I tried out a variety of paths—music, psychology, nursing, administration—each time hoping to find something that truly resonated. It wasn’t until 2018 that I stumbled upon marketing and business, and everything just clicked.

Determined to pursue this newfound interest, I invested thousands in online courses to learn as much as I could. Even though it took two years to land a formal marketing role, the wait was worth it. That first role was more than a job; it was a launchpad that allowed me to grow, learn, and ultimately led me to where I am today.

This is me in late 2018, just two months after purchasing a random $1,500 online marketing course and still figuring out what I wanted to do in life.

Since then, I’ve accumulated over five years of experience in the marketing industry. My most recent role before starting my own agency was as Chief Marketing Officer at a multi-million dollar Australian fintech startup. In that role, I managed their marketing, social media, partnerships, and more, gaining invaluable insights into how strategic marketing can drive real growth and create lasting impact.

The Inspiration Behind Starting An Agency

Starting my own agency wasn’t always part of the plan. There's actually a few deeper reasons why I did it, but I'll pick one for now and save the rest for another day.

It wasn't until my favourite local burger restaurant unexpectedly closed down in June 2023 that an idea sparked in my head.

Despite this restaurant being popular and having other successful locations, this branch shut its doors, leaving me completely shook and confused. After reaching out to the team on social media to ask why this happened, they simply told me that they just weren't making enough money from that location.

This came as a shock to me because, looking from the outside in, they always seemed to be doing okay.

I couldn’t help but feel that if I’d just reached out to offer help with their marketing and brand strategy, maybe they'd have been able to stay open. This experience was honestly a weird epiphany and turning point for me. It eventually drove me to start The Level Up, my own agency side-hustle and passion project, outside of my full-time role as CMO. In the evenings and on weekends, I began offering marketing support to small businesses that needed it most.

A few months in, I decided to bring onboard my good friend Christo as a business partner. Our different skills and personalities complement each other well, which has made the agency journey all the more enjoyable and rewarding. Today, our agency is still dedicated to helping local businesses succeed, especially those who might struggle to keep up with the latest marketing, AI, and software trends.

Many small businesses face the daunting challenge of balancing day-to-day operations with staying on top of technology that could help them thrive. That’s where we come in.

Why HighLevel?

Believe it or not, I actually started my agency before knowing HighLevel (GoHighLevel) even existed. Yes, that's right, my agency name is not inspired by HighLevel's annual Level Up Summit. It was a complete coincidence, I have proof!

Despite not using HighLevel at the start, this awesome software has become a cornerstone of our agency’s offerings, and it’s no exaggeration to say it’s transformed how we operate.

I like to think of HighLevel as a ridiculously large toolbox packed with every tool a business needs to succeed in today’s digital world. Sharing My Journey

Though I’m naturally introverted and have my own struggles with awkwardness and social anxiety, I felt compelled to start this blog to share my journey. I document my experiences in marketing, from the lessons I’ve learned to the challenges I’ve faced, and offer insights into navigating HighLevel. My goal is to provide genuine, practical content for others who may be learning HighLevel, exploring marketing, or simply finding their way, as I once was.

In a constantly evolving industry like marketing, the learning never stops. I’m here to share that journey with you—whether it’s tips on HighLevel, insights on AI trends, or strategies for overcoming the challenges that many small business owners face today.
